An early lead helped Fenton Tigers Varsity defeat Powers Catholic 5-3 on Saturday. Fenton Tigers Varsity scored on a single by Logan Angel in the first inning, a single by Grahm Staib in the second inning, a sacrifice fly by Brock Henson in the second inning, and a single by Angel in the second inning.
In the bottom of the first inning, Fenton Tigers Varsity tied things up at one when Angel singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run.
After Powers Catholic scored one run in the top of the fifth, Fenton Tigers Varsity answered with one of their own. Powers Catholic scored when Beauchamp’s sac fly scored one run for Powers Catholic. Fenton Tigers Varsity then answered when Drew Taylor singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
Fenton Tigers Varsity pulled away for good with three runs in the second inning. In the second Staib singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run, Henson’s sac fly scored one run for Fenton Tigers Varsity, and Angel singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.
Ryan Adams led the Fenton Tigers Varsity to victory on the mound. He went four innings, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out two. Connor Luck threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen. Luck recorded the last nine outs to earn the save for Fenton Tigers Varsity.
Plummer took the loss for Powers Catholic. He surrendered four runs on three hits over one and two-thirds innings, striking out two.
Fenton Tigers Varsity racked up eight hits in the game. Angel, Brendan Alvord, and Staib each had multiple hits for Fenton Tigers Varsity. Staib, Alvord, and Angel each collected two hits to lead Fenton Tigers Varsity.
Mazza went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Powers Catholic in hits.
